Inspire

Quantock Outdoor Education (QOE) is an alternative education provider. We aim to inspire young people to learn, enjoy and embrace the outdoors. This is delivered either 1:1, 1:2 or in small group sessions by our trained QOE coordinators. We re-engage young people in learning, helping them to build confidence and self esteem through vocational training and meaningful work.

We provide unique learning environments for the children & young people that we work with. It is essential that we build positive, trusting relationships with them and their families.

The individual programmes that we develop for each child are designed to develop a wide range of skills, as well as focusing on their social and emotional well-being. Our therapeutic approach aims to revisit gaps in childhood play, learning and experiences.

Our children grow in self-reliance and confidence as they learn how to enjoy, evaluate and take risks in different activities and experiences. They also become smarter and more informed in making choices about how to handle the situations they encounter. This enhances their self-esteem and prepares them for various aspects of life through the activities we provide, such as:

  • Caring for wild places and their benefits.

  • Learning about Forest School and sustainability.

  • Exploring the outdoors through equine, water and sport based activities.

  • Developing self-regulation skills and resilience to cope with risk and failure.

  • Achieving a sense of accomplishment through the John Muir Award.

  • Improving motivation, concentration and problem solving skills.

A safe place to share thoughts, feelings and have opinions heard while exploring new places and trying new activities.

  • Gain qualifications and work experience recognised by further education and employers.

  • Access to mentoring and support

  • Increased self confidence and esteem

  • Developing social and practical life skills.

What People Say About Quantock Outdoor Education

Through QOE our child’s learning is tailored to their autism and sensory needs, their developmental level, and the environmental stimuli. This makes the learning more inclusive and less overwhelming for them and reduces their anxiety throughout the week.

QOE’s sensory break makes our child happier, calmer and more developed. It supports their overall development and their academic skills, which will help me with their next steps. The phonic activities were wonderful to see and these will help support my child within the classroom.

My child has formed lovely relationships with many of the QOE Activity Leaders, who have taken the time to understand and know them. QOE sessions have a calming effect on my child, which has improved our home life greatly.
